The Chinese International School (CIS) is an independent, nondenominational, coeducational day school, dedicated to providing a high quality international education that encompasses both Chinese and western languages and cultures. All students learn and are taught in both English and Mandarin. The balance of the curriculum is based on standard subjects taught in most western countries and includes the study of Chinese history, arts and culture. The Primary teaches a school-based dual-language curriculum with equal time devoted to English and Chinese. The Lower Secondary follows the IB Middle Years Programme (IBMYP) and the Upper Secondary follows the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP). There are 616 students in the Primary School (reception to Year 6) and 864 students in Secondary (Years 7 to 13).
CIS seeks a Head of Secondary who is a proven educational leader with the ability to inspire and bring out the best in faculty, students and parents; who builds engaging, collaborative and innovative learning environments and programmes; is passionate about educational research and curriculum development; demonstrates a commitment to student well-being and personal growth; has a deep interest in dual-language education; and identifies strongly with CIS’s multicultural mission and vision.
Reporting to the Headmaster, the Head of Secondary will oversee the continued excellence and continuous improvement of teaching and learning in the Secondary Division and contribute to the recruitment, orientation, appraisal and development of a skilled and dedicated faculty. In addition, the Head of Secondary will be expected to maintain and enhance the high quality of the well-established IB MYP and DP programmes. He or she will be expected to advance CIS-specific initiatives.
Requirements for the positions are an advanced degree and experience in a senior management role and knowledge of the MYP and DP. The ability to speak Mandarin is a plus. Fluency in more than one language is an asset. The position is effective July 1 or August 1, 2018.
