Job Posting: February 2017
Position Title: Prekindergarten Coordinator
St. Mark’s Episcopal School is excited to conduct a search for a Prekindergarten (PK) Coordinator. This part time administrator will report to the Head of Lower School and start work in August 2017.
St. Mark’s, established in 1979, is a coeducational parish day school, now serving 475 students from age two through Grade 8 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The foundation of St. Mark’s program is to provide students with balanced exposure to academics, arts, athletics, and spiritual life. At all levels, our students will be, as our mission states, academically enriched in a nurturing Christian environment. With the goal of preparing our youngest students for Kindergarten at St. Mark’s, the PK years foster independence and a love of learning. The PK program, one-hundred plus students strong, houses our PK2, PK3, and PK4 grade levels.
Qualified candidates will have experience teaching young students, mentoring teachers, leading faculty, and partnering with parents. The day-to-day responsibilities include ensuring that the PK curriculum and instructional strategies are aligned with the mission and goals of the school. Some examples of ongoing tasks include:
- Supporting, encouraging, and coaching teachers on best practices, with the goal of enhancing the classroom experience for all students
- Communicating with parents through email, phone calls, and meetings to provide information and demonstrate care and concern for students
- Regularly observing and meeting with PK teachers
- Providing general support to teachers and administrators with the purpose of advancing the St. Mark’s mission
Additional duties include developing curriculum, coordinating special activities for the PK program, assisting in the evaluation and hiring of teaching candidates, and participating in faculty meetings and professional development.
A candidate with a keen understanding of the interests and needs of prekindergarteners, their parents, and teachers is critically important. The ideal candidate will also have outstanding communication, organization, and team-building skills. In addition, familiarity with relevant health department laws and regulations regarding pre-schools is also desirable.
All applicants should have a Bachelor's degree or higher in education with coursework in early childhood education and a minimum of three years of experience in an early childhood education program.
