Marburn Academy is the only independent day school in the central Ohio devoted to serving the educational needs of students with learning differences such as Dyslexia, Executive Function difficulties and attention issues. Marburn is accredited by the Independent School Association of the Central States (ISACS) and is one of only 17 schools in the nation to have its language instruction program accredited by the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators (AOGPE). Marburn Academy is a growing program with 236 current students in grades 2-12 across three divisions.
This position has primary responsibility to provide counseling services to the students and support the social emotional needs of the Marburn Academy community. The School Counselor supports the goals and activities of Marburn Academy, and reports directly to the Associate Head of School.
To serve as the primary counselor/mental health professional for students
To serve as the primary school resource and advisor to faculty and administration for student mental health and behavioral issues
To provide training/teaching for students, teachers and parents for the school’s behavior management model (ripcord, self awareness, responsive classroom etc.)
To serve as self-awareness curriculum leader
To assist in support of students and families transitioning from Marburn Academy
To coordinate with teachers, administrators, and outside support systems (physicians, mental health professionals, hospitals, courts, child protective services, etc.) for the purpose of providing/receiving requested information, making recommendations, and supporting our students
To develop and lead our ongoing diversity initiatives within the community
To develop a variety of special programs and classes (e.g. leadership and teamwork development, bullying, coping with divorce or death, social skills, etc.) as needed
To keep the Head of School and the Associate Head of School fully informed on student issues and all other relevant matters pertaining to school life
To serve as a permanent member of the school’s safety committee to oversee required environmental, health and maintenance standards as required by law and to work with the administration, to ensure compliance with all regional, state and federal regulations and laws as they impact the school
To serve as a member of the Action Team and work with the Associate Head, Division Heads, and the Dean of Students to ensure the social emotional well being of our students
To support the school and its leadership
To perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School or Associate Head of School
