Milton Academy, established in 1798, is an independent coeducational national boarding and day school, serving 1,000 students in grades K-12 on a 125 acre campus eight miles south of Boston.
The manager of Milton Academy Events is a critical role, given Milton’s three divisions (Upper, Middle and Lower schools); a robust residential life program; and a public space/rental program that results in a 24/7 operation. This role will ensure consistent and sophisticated execution of major and critical minor events both during and outside the typical school day, in support of the mission of the Academy. The successful candidate will willingly anticipate and plan for recurring annual and one-time Milton Academy events, ensuring a consistent and sophisticated look and feel of the events; designing the flow and timing of the event, organizing personnel and outside vendors, plus requesting all internal logistics and resources and ensuring that the event is executed within budget. The individual will communicate clearly and consistently; have proven success with managing multiple tasks at once; and understand how to help organizations fulfill priorities. This individual will interact with all major departments and programs on campus, supporting each department’s key contact(s) in planning and executing events. The individual also interacts closely with all resource and service departments responsible for fulfilling event-related needs on campus. As such, the manager must routinely engage with and develop trusting relationships with all key points of contact across Milton. The person in this role will be highly visible; require an impeccable sense of good judgment and high standards; and will be a point person when challenges arise.
Schedule flexibility is required for this position. The position requires pre-event coordination and a presence at school-year events (e.g., opening of school, War Memorial Lecture, graduation), upper school parent association meetings, and special summer events (e.g., weddings, event rentals, filmings) which often fall outside of the normal business day. In general, need for attendance at these events will be known weeks in advance, although it is always possible that rentals may be booked with less notice.
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree and have at least five years of related events, logistics and/or business sales experience or similar positions that demonstrate the capabilities required. Candidates must have a professional, approachable demeanor and customer-service-orientation; Ability to be flexible and work collaboratively, building strong relationships; Ability to identify and solve problems independently, including the ability to envision and identify issues in advance; Ability to prioritize multiple projects and tasks and resolve issues in a fast-paced work environment.
