The Caedmon School is excited to find the next Director of Early Childhood (Pre-K and Kindergarten) starting July 1, 2017. This person will lead and inspire 20 teachers, and be responsible for 100 children and their families. This position is an integral administrative position in the school with a visible presence and engagement in all areas. S/he will supervise the day-to-day operation of Caedmon’s Montessori Early Childhood program, which includes the implementation of the educational activities, behavior expectations of students and adults, and daily communication with parents and faculty. This person will be a member of the school’s dynamic Cabinet/Administrative Team, and reports directly to the Head of School.
The ideal candidate will have experience:
Developing and maintaining a Curriculum and Program inspired by Montessori philosophy and additional leading Early Childhood pedagogy - the Director is responsible for a dynamic early childhood program that constantly examines Montessori curriculum in the 21st century, recognizing the importance of play, and insuring collaboration, along with scope and sequence, with the ongoing elementary program; works with the Director of Finance and Operations on programmatic needs and changes during the budgeting process as well as throughout the year, and coordinates and monitors the ordering, maintenance and inventory of classroom materials and equipment in the early childhood program.
Inspiring, coaching, and supervising Teachers – he/she will observe, hire, support and evaluate faculty; advise on professional development opportunities, child development, relationships with families, classroom design, and general school procedures such as arrival and dismissal, etc; ensure that teachers are consistently working to meet the needs of the children in their classrooms. The candidate will conduct engaging, regularly scheduled faculty and team meetings in accordance with the needs of the school.
Creating a Partnership with Families – he/she will build relationships with the parents, providing support and guidance for children and families through meetings and child observations, offering advice on child development, advising on therapies and suggesting extra support if needed, conducting workshops, and resolving problems, both routine and unique, as they arise, discussing Montessori philosophy.
Collaborating with the Admissions Director – He/she will join with the admissions team, guiding tours for prospective and existing families, coordinating group interviews, conducting one-on-one interviews, and new family workshops and orientation, participating in open houses, attending some weekend and evening events.
