Allen- Stevenson School, a K-9 boys independent day school of 415 students in New York City, seeks an Upper School Head for grades 7-9 beginning July 1, 2017. We seek an experienced educational leader who understands the development of boys and is excited to collaborate in a spirited school environment that values excellence in each of the 3 A’s—academics, athletics and the arts.
The Upper School Head is a senior level administrator who reports directly to the Headmaster. He or she is responsible for running the day-to-day operations of the division, including supervising teachers; managing, coordinating, and developing academic programs; communicating with parents; and overseeing discipline. The candidate may also have responsibility for helping to place 8th and 9th grade students in other ongoing schools.
Allen-Stevenson provides an “enlightened traditional” education while inspiring boys to become scholars and gentlemen. To assure excellence in teaching and learning, the Upper School Head should have knowledge of best practices along with a background of demonstrated leadership, organization, management and supervision. The successful candidate will be a collaborative, creative, disciplined self-starter who loves learning, thrives in a diverse school environment, and likes building bridges with other parts of the School.
Allen-Stevenson actively seeks to forward its diversity goals through its hiring process.
