THE POSITION: Hawken School is seeking a full-time middle school mathematics teacher for the 2017-2018 school year. The essential duties/responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Teach four classes of 6th grade mathematics including sections of 6th grade math and pre-algebra
Serve as an advisor, overseeing the academic and social growth of his/her advisees
Serve as a member of a grade level team of teachers meeting on a daily/weekly basis to plan, develop, and assess co-curricular activities and coordinate student support in alignment with Hawken’s mission
Serve as a member of the Middle School Mathematics Department, attending departmental meetings, developing and updating course curricula, and supporting the work of the department
Coach or lead a significant co-curricular activity within the Middle School
Perform other non-teaching duties as assigned by the Director and Head of School
QUALIFICATIONS: Hawken School seeks a dynamic and innovative individual committed to teaching the total child. Candidates must possess demonstrated competence and leadership in middle level mathematics curriculum development, instruction and pedagogy. There will be preference for candidates with demonstrated experience using technology for student discovery and learning (especially dynamic geometry software, dynamic graphing software, computer algebra systems, and the TI-Nspire), familiarity with the College Preparatory Mathematics curriculum, and/or experience integrating statistics into middle school math curricula. An advanced degree is preferred but not required. Candidates should have an exceptional understanding of the developmental needs of middle school learners, flexibility, energy, creativity, high expectations, and a sense of humor.
