THE POSITION: Hawken School is seeking a full-time upper school teacher of both Biology and Chemistry for the 2017-2018 school year. The essential duties/responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Teach four sections of Biology to eleventh graders and Chemistry to tenth graders
Be available on a regular basis for offering extra help in Biology and Chemistry
Serve as an advisor, overseeing the academic and social growth of his/her advisees.
Engage meaningfully in extracurricular activities
Perform other non-teaching duties as assigned by the Assistant Head or Head of School
QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will be passionate about science, committed to developing his or her craft, and keenly interested in bringing appropriate innovative technologies into the classroom. Interest and experience with coding is also preferred. It is also important that the candidate have an active interest in developing courses with substantive interdisciplinary, experiential and service components that take advantage of longer teaching blocks and our 3-week intensive schedule. Members of our Science Department are experienced, highly skilled in their fields, and eager to share their expertise with colleagues. Hawken students collaborate well with one another and with their teachers; they are bright and motivated to learn. We seek a candidate with a healthy combination of flexibility, energy, creativity, high expectations and sense of humor, as well as an understanding of the developmental needs of high school aged adolescents. Ideal candidates will have strong cross-cultural competency skills and demonstrated experience working in a diverse community. A Bachelor of Arts degree is required and a masters’ degree is preferred.
