Maret School seeks a dynamic Instrumental Music Teacher to join its Performing Arts Faculty in the fall of 2017. We are looking for someone who is passionate about all kinds of music from classical, gospel, global, jazz, pop and any other types of music that tell a story and brings joy to the world. Teaching responsibilities include four curricular instrumental ensembles and two co-curricular jazz bands (grades 5-12). Additional responsibilities include supporting school-wide instrumental music activities, planning yearly trips and festival experiences, and advising students.
We welcome and support study of all instruments in our ensembles, so the programming is eclectic and non-traditional. The repertoire is chosen to incorporate the wide variety of instruments involved. The ideal candidate will be an inspired musician/teacher with a high level of expertise in middle and high school repertoire/programming. The ability to model and teach on all instruments, a degree in music, strong conducting/accompanying skills and a minimum of three years of successful teaching in an instrumental music program are strongly preferred.
The Performing Arts are an integral part of Maret School’s culture, which deeply values connectedness, creativity, joy, and diversity. A collaborative spirit and a desire to work in concert with the mission of the Performing Arts Department and Maret School as a whole are essential. Equity & Inclusion is at the heart of all of our teaching and programing. Founded in 1911, Maret School is an independent, coeducational, K-12, college preparatory day school located on a single campus in Washington, D.C..
