The Masters School seeks a Chemistry/Science Research Teacher who combines expertise in the subject with a passion for teaching, who is both creative, flexible and collaborative in the planning of instruction,
teaching and assessing; and who is committed to the principle that the deepest learning occurs when students are afforded opportunities to “discover” the concepts for themselves. The Masters School uses the Harkness method to maintain an atmosphere of collaboration to build knowledge and learn from one another, so experience with or interest in the Harkness methodology of teaching which creates a student-centered learning environment is desirable.
The Science Department is committed to intellectual and creative abilities while continuing to develop a STEM curriculum. To continue our current departmental goals, experience teaching chemistry and developing a research program is highly desirable with the ability to design and implement creative inquiry based experiments that will facilitate the Harkness method and student-based learning.
Teach two sections of Chemistry.
Coordinate Science Research program including teaching Science Research courses.
Collaborate with teachers of same courses.
Attend department, division, and all-school faculty meetings.
Communicate effectively with advisors, class deans, and parents regarding student progress, as needed.
At least three years teaching and advising experience, preferably working in an independent day/boarding, college preparatory school with similar culture and values.
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Science, a Master’s degree is preferred.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Interest in being an active member of The Masters School community by advising, leading a student club, serving on a committee, and/or coaching.
