The Masters School seeks a teacher with a positive, energetic approach to the medium of photography, while teaching a structured work process in preparation for college level classes in the arts. The candidate will be expected to plan and implement lessons in Darkroom and Digital Photography and AP 2-D Design: Photography, Video and Animation.
The ideal candidate also will be able to design and implement classes in Studio Art, including Foundations (Drawing, Painting and 3-D), Ceramics, Design, Architecture and Printmaking. The material is taught within the context of Fine Art photography from 1849 – present, including contemporary methods utilizing multi-media.
Teaching four sections of art
Working in collaboration with the Chair of the Visual Arts Department and other visual and media arts faculty on curriculum mapping from Middle through Upper School, exhibitions, and programs, scheduling, strategic planning, and upgrading and maintenance of the Media Labs and Studio Arts facilities, as well as on continual refinement and improvement of the Upper School visual arts curriculum.
Creating written lesson plans, rubrics and assessments for all classes.
Working with students on self-assessments in a student centered learning environment.
Attending faculty and staff meetings, in-house professional development days, parent conferences and all other meetings required by the administration.
Advisor to student clubs including The Honorary Photographic Society.
Encouraging students to submit work to local and national art competitions and exhibitions, and assisting them with follow through.
Contributing student work to on-campus student exhibits and attending Visual Arts events, including informational nights for parents.
Working within the budget in collaboration with the Chair of Visual Arts to order supplies, and keep the facilities in working order.
Attending local and national conferences and professional development opportunities as approved by the administration.
Maintaining a professional demeanor in keeping with the ethos of The Masters School.
Serving as an academic advisor to a group of 6-8 students.
Bachelor’s Degree in Photography, Art, or related field required.
Prefer a Masters in Fine Art in Studio Art with a concentration in photography, or the equivalent; with a strong background or concentration in photography, including the history of photography.
Strong Photoshop, Lightroom and InDesign skills
Familiarity with additional Adobe software is strongly recommended.
