The Dean of Student Life is a new position to Mercersburg Academy and will be responsible for the student experience. The position will be expected to develop a thorough and relevant program to supplement the academic growth of all students and will work closely with all areas of school life to ensure a vibrant, safe, and engaging experience for our students.
Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to:
Manage a team that includes an assistant dean of student life, director of dormitories, director of student activities, and administrative assistant;
Serve as a member of the Internal Administrative Team, Calendar Committee, Program Collaboration Group, and Enterprise Risk Management Team;
Oversee all weekend management and activities to promote a healthy, safe, and engaging weekend experience for students;
Oversee duty dean team;
Manage attendance for all required meetings and events;
Oversee school policies as they relate to student behavior and community expectations;
Facilitate all conduct review – both minor and major infractions;
Work closely with the chair of the conduct review committee on committee training and the facilitation of conduct review boards for major infractions;
Oversee student government and student elections;
Facilitate all student leadership selection and on-going training in conjunction with the Director of Dormitories and other departments;
Oversee and implement the use of technology to facilitate and enhance efficiency, reliability, and safety in relevant areas of the student life program.
Teach one section and/or coach one season.

Commitment to the values and goals of Mercersburg Academy’s residential life program;
Foster the school’s vision of the role of residential education and student services in the overall education experience of our students;
Demonstrated sensitivity and effectiveness in dealing with student behavioral issues;
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds;
Proven ability to lead and manage a team;
Knowledge of and comfort with technological management systems.
Bachelor’s degree, master’s preferred;
Experience in a boarding school environment;
Experience working in a dean of students office within a boarding school preferred.
