The Shipley School, founded in 1894, is a co-educational, college preparatory, independent day school currently enrolling 835 students in grades Pre-K through 12. Located in the western suburbs of Philadelphia, the school is committed to educational excellence and dedicated to developing in each student a love of learning and a compassionate participation in the world. The Upper School has 378 students in grades 9-12, and a faculty of 60.
The Shipley Upper School seeks an experienced high school math teacher for the 2017-2018 school year. The candidate will have a degree in mathematics and clear educational philosophy, which is consistent with the mission of the school. Experience teaching math at the high school level is essential. Experience in related STEM fields is a plus.
The teacher reports to his or her department chair
Creates a supportive atmosphere and rigorous academic program in which all students will thrive
Teach four courses with a focus on developing strong computational skills, deep conceptual understanding, and creative problem solving
Advises students and attends faculty meetings
Provides positive, frequent communication with colleagues, administration and families
Clear educational philosophy, consistent with the mission of the school
Is able to develop curriculum and is comfortable in a 1:1 teaching environment
Experience teaching math at the high school level
Holds a masters in mathematics, teaching of math or a related field
Must be creative, energetic, and positive as he or she encourages, instructs and evaluates the students in his or her care.
