Brief Overview of the Role
Liaises with: Dept. Coordinator, Director of Teaching & Learning, Director of Curriculum & Technology
The ideal applicant is someone who has significant experience with and a passion for working with Middle School students. This person has a curious mind and constantly is looking for ways to engage all students, while developing innovative and progressive curriculum and pedagogy. We seek a candidate who has a persistent disquiet with the status quo and will join us in challenging traditional methodologies for math instruction. While this role is at present for Middle School, this person has the capacity also to teach Upper School students. Familiarity with Singapore Math, which our Lower School uses, is a positive. Having a curious, positive, active, and collaborative disposition is essential.
Candidates should have at least two years teaching experience and preferably possess specific experience teaching pre-algebra and algebra to Middle Schoolers. Wooster expects teachers to creatively collaborate across departmental lines and to build and integrate curriculum. A commitment to lifelong learning, building relationships, creating compassion, and developing community are pillars of teaching and learning in this setting.
Math Teacher Expectations
- Deliver high quality, rigorous, student-centered instruction
- Lead in the development of math curriculum and innovative pedagogy
- Collaborate with colleagues, coordinators, and directors
- Participate in student life and extra curricular activities
- Act as an advisor to an assigned group of students
- Chaperone school trips and attend school events (e.g., dances, grade level field trips)
- Incorporate online or blended strategies into the curriculum
