The Dalton School seeks a full-time Grade 7 English Teacher and House Advisor to join the faculty for the 2017-2018 school year. The ideal candidate is passionate and knowledgeable about progressive middle school education, literature, writing, and differentiation. We seek teachers who are enthusiastic about working collaboratively to design innovative curriculum that addresses the whole child.
Curricular content includes short stories, poetry, drama, a page-to-stage project, and the novel, with a particular focus on close analysis of text. Students work to hone both analytical and creative writing skills and engage in formal grammar study. The Dalton School is committed to integrating elements of STEAM and transdisciplinary teaching and learning into its programs. The English department strives to select texts which reflect the diversity of our world. The candidate should also be experienced in using progressive pedagogy to build the skills of reading, writing, and critical thinking in a student-centered classroom environment.
Full-time teachers also serve as House Advisors, working as advocates for their group of 7th graders. House Advisors are the primary points of contact for families and help to develop the social/emotional growth of each student. House Advisors collaborate with the 7th grade team to develop House curriculum on grade-specific topics and community building programs.
