St. Martin’s Episcopal School is looking for an experienced, dynamic Middle School Social Studies Teacher for the 2017-2018 school year. The middle school social studies program benefits from a strong backwards design approach, in which provocative essential questions awaken greater student curiosity and form connections with existing understanding. Additionally, our Sixth Grade Social Studies program, in particular, is expected to benefit from St. Martin’s newly established Community Oriented Research and Education (CORE) program, in which closer ties between the school and larger community are explored and promoted. The teacher will also be a 6th grade advisor who will chaperone exciting overnight trips. Middle School teachers wear multiple hats at St. Martin’s and are involved in many areas of campus life. Opportunities exist for sponsorship of extracurricular activities, coaching and/or being involved in a highly successful performing arts program.
St. Martin’s believes in life-long learning and offers teachers extraordinary opportunities for professional growth. Candidates should be experienced professionals who embrace working in a highly collaborative, collegial environment and are comfortable incorporating the use of various technologies to support student learning. The strong preference is for a lively educator who has obtained a Master’s degree and/or has significant Social Studies teaching experience with middle school and/or 9th grade students.
