Graland Country Day School is seeking a Middle School Counselor to work closely with students in grades 5-8. The candidate should be an experienced counselor who understands school environments and the unique needs of middle school students. The ideal candidate thrives when working collaboratively and is skilled at working with students, faculty and families.
Maintain a caseload and provide counseling services for students.
Provide consultation for faculty and parents.
Identify and use clear protocols and processes for assessing and supporting students in need, students in transition and safety concerns.
Provide resources and referrals to students, parents, faculty and staff.
Conduct group sessions with students based on needs assessments.
Conduct staff and parent training on a variety of issues, such as learning differences; student motivation; peer relations; identity development; child abuse; emotional, behavioral and health issues; psycho/social/sexual development.
Facilitate peer mediations.
Maintain records, confidentiality and ethical conduct consistent with established professional standards.
Serve on the Student Support Team, and all grade-level team meetings as needed or assigned.
Work with teachers to develop learning and behavior plans to address specific student learning, emotional, behavioral, and social needs.
Interpret psycho-educational testing results or other metrics; make recommendations for action based upon these results to teachers and parents.
Serve as a grade-level advisor and assist with the character education of all students.
Assist with standardized testing.
Co-teaching in wellness class as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Professional and Personal Qualities
Master’s degree or Ph.D.
5+ years professional counseling experience
Licensure in counseling, psychology, educational psychology, social work or other related field
Excellent communication skills ?
Familiarity with schools and knowledgeable about classroom teaching
Experience with an interdisciplinary team approach to assessing student needs.
