High School Biology Teacher

Duties/Responsibilities: Adheres to Employee Handbook guidelines Communicates appropriately and effectively with students (includes timely feedback regarding progress, assignments, exams, etc) Communicates appropriately and effectively with parents (includes information regarding curricular program, class-specific events, and timely feedback about student progress) Communicates appropriately and effectively with colleagues. Shares records of parent communication with appropriate administrator/supervisor in a timely manner Upholds professional standards of attire, punctuality, courtesy and discretion. Attends/participates in required faculty/grade level team meetings and school events. Attends/participates in professional development opportunities and integrates new learning into instructional practice. Participates actively in the ongoing review and development of K-12 curriculum Prepares for and conducts Parent Conferences, twice annually, and as appropriate Demonstrates awareness/sensitivity to diversity and inclusion Is knowledgeable of grade level curriculum/demonstrates subject-area expertise Recognizes and respects students’ individual learning needs Presents well-prepared and effective lessons Integrates the use of technology into class lessons and assignments Implements effective classroom management techniques and strategies Differentiates instruction/materials based on student need Maintains accurate records of student progress Organizes and maintains appearance of classroom space Maintains appropriate supervision of students as assigned Develops positive and appropriate rapport with students Fosters a professional and safe learning environment Embrace and model the mission of our Sacred Heart schools as articulated in the five Goals Positively contributes to the culture of the school
Other Responsibilities include: Attendance at faculty/department meetings Attendance at required evening events, including Back to School Night, Open House/Evening School, Admissions Refresher Night Substituting for colleagues Delivery of parent/teacher conference (on occasion outside of school hours) Chaperone Student Activities - Dances, socials, retreats, etc. Proctoring exams and tests Lunch duty Morning Supervision of students Active participation on school committees Continued professional development Daytime and/or overnight field trips Morning drop off duty Afternoon dismissal duty Supervision of students for non-curricular activities
Requires BA/BS degree. Masters degree and/or credential is strongly preferred.
Requires the ability to teach all levels of high school Biology.
Prior AP and IB teaching experience strongly preferred, especially with independent schools.
Excellent writing and communication skills.
Requires demonstrated experience using a wide range of instructional technology tools. Direct experience using iPads, laptops, and Google Apps strongly preferred.
Must be detail-oriented, organized and willing to take initiative.
Must have excellent teamwork skills and the ability to work well with children and adults.
Must be a role model in embracing and living out the School mission, goals and criteria.
Experience with independent schools preferred.
Additional Salary Information: Depending on experience
