The Blake School seeks a creative 8th grade English teacher who is eager to help students develop the skills to read and write with imagination, passion and insight. This position reflects three sections for the fall semester (August 2017- early January 2018). Blake is particularly interested in teachers who will enrich the diversity of identity, lived experience and thinking that makes a community strong and empowers students to engage across differences. At Blake, teachers collaborate with their colleagues to develop their practice, design new curriculum and create a coherent experience for students taking the same class. In addition to classroom instruction, English teachers confer frequently with each of their students about their writing, meet regularly at lunch with a grade level team, hold semester conferences with parents, support students within our advisory program and participate in all school initiatives. In their English classes, students learn to develop facility with language, construct cogent interpretations grounded in close analysis, participate effectively in seminar and small group discussions and think critically about the perspectives and narratives that frame our consciousness. This one-semester position is not benefits-eligible.
