Derby Academy seeks an enthusiastic, well-qualified candidate for the position of Middle School Science Teacher. This will be a full-time position beginning in August of 2017.
The Derby Academy science department values an inquiry-based science that has students formulating questions about the world around them and seeking out the answers through scientific investigation. Students receive a solid foundation of scientific knowledge in life, earth and physical science. Real world, authentic applications of science are stressed throughout the program. Students are also encouraged to apply their knowledge to being good stewards of the health of the planet.
The ideal candidate will:
Share a deep passion for science;
Have a love of working with Middle School students;
Have enthusiasm, flexibility, and a desire to collaborate with colleagues both in the department and across disciplines;
Have a desire to develop curriculum that focuses on the real-world application of science and hands-on learning;
Provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, innovation, problem-solving, and the use of technology;
Create a supportive and caring classroom environment in which students can learn and interact positively with one another; through student-centered instruction, collaboration and authentic assessment;
A competitive salary and benefits package includes generous funding of professional development. At least three years of previous teaching experience and a master’s degree is preferred, but teacher certification is not required for consideration. Derby seeks and supports diversity in its faculty.
