The Middle School Maker Space educator works with students (ages 10-14) and teachers from all subject areas to meld diverse disciplines—math, science, art, and more—into ambitious projects. We are seeking someone whose skills and passions span several areas: engineering, technology, design, and teaching. This is an opportunity to help establish and grow this exciting program.
Teach project oriented classes to engage students in STEAM experiences;
Lead students in developing design, engineering, and project planning skills;
Work with students individually and in groups to develop, prototype, and present MakerSpace projects;
Collaborate with teachers to support and create curriculum and projects, suitable for students ages 10 – 14, to facilitate the implementation of science and technology standards;
Coordinate related after school programs;
Maintain working knowledge of equipment and resources in the MakerSpace;
Provide technical support of project documentation (video, photos, sketchbook, lab notebook, blog);
Promote entrepreneurialism, helping students envision how to take their projects from conception to the marketplace;
Maintain the Middle School MakerSpace as a safe and efficient learning environment, including routine maintenance of equipment and tools, and procurement, organization, and storage of materials and projects;
Keep abreast of relevant technologies and continually engage in learning and exploration;
Facilitate the attainment of science and technology standards.
Experience in the use of digital arts and fabrication software and equipment, including 3D printers, laser cutters, tools, robotics, etc.
Skills in technology, art, craft, engineering, music, science, and other Maker themes
Enthusiasm and willingness to learn, tinker, and make things
Sincere motivation to work collaboratively with an experienced, committed faculty
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and computer skills
Experience and/or strong interest in working with young people ages 10-14
Minimum three years teaching experience and BA or BS, with preference for a degree in a relevant field
