Madison Country Day School, an independent, PK-12 IB World School with an
international curriculum, seeks a dynamic, experienced principal to lead its Lower
School Pre-K through grade 4 program. What are the most important qualities for a

The Head of Lower School works collaboratively with faculty, administration, and
families to support the development of students and oversees the implementation of the
school’s mission and curriculum in the Lower School, including the mentorship,
support, and evaluation of the LS faculty. The ongoing cultivation of a vibrant LS
community and partnership between the school and LS parents is paramount. The
successful applicant will be responsible for guiding all logistical aspects of the division. Strong management and written and oral communication skills are essential. Previous school administration and teaching experience and a Master’s degree are strongly preferred, particularly within an independent and/or international school setting. The Head of the Lower School reports directly to the Head of School. The position will include additional leadership responsibilities within MCDS, including overseeing the school’s Extended Day Program.
Madison Country Day School is an independent, college-preparatory school serving

• Strong preference for Master’s in curriculum, educational leadership,
Developmental psychology or other related areas
• 5 years classroom or related experience
• Familiarity/work in independent and/or international schools
• Experience mentoring and coaching teachers
• Demonstrable understanding and appreciation for elementary-
• Ability to work collaboratively with and lead people of diverse backgrounds, ages, etc.
• Ability to organize and manage multiple projects and activities •
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
