Full Time Performing Arts Technical Director
Beginning in August 1, 2017
Marin Academy seeks an experienced Performing Arts Technical Director for a full-time position that will begin in August 2017. Candidates should have professional theater and/or school experience. A bachelor’s degree in Technical Theater or a related field is required. A master's degree in a related field is a plus.
The Technical Director works primarily with the Performing Arts Department to support the department’s events and has some school-wide duties related to the use of performance spaces including lighting, audio and video technologies. Candidates should have experience with industry standard systems and equipment relating to the smooth running of music, dance, and theater productions, including lighting, sound, projection, computer interface, and stage management. Expertise in two or more of these areas and willingness to gain mastery in all of these systems is a must. The Technical Director oversees the implementation of all designs, including lighting design, sound design, and set design and build. The ideal candidate has a mind for, and a curiosity about, technology and is knowledgeable about a variety of operating and design applications including but not limited to Q Lab and Vectorworks. The Technical Director is a mentor to students, cultivating their leadership and creativity and is able to build a student crew that manages all technical aspects of Performing Arts productions. The ideal candidate will have teaching experience.
The Performing Arts Department consists of three high-level, dynamic programs in dance, theater, and music. The department is unusual in its emphasis on original student work and is focused on performance and ensemble skills. Ours are not the typical high school productions! For this reason, growth mindset, flexible thinking, desire to collaborate, and unflappability are critical. The Performing Arts Technical Director is an academic support staff position and follows a modified faculty calendar with vacation at winter, spring and summer vacations. Hours often include evenings and weekends surrounding performance events.
