St. Mark’s Episcopal School is conducting a search for a full or part-time instructor in science for the 2017-2018 school year. This teacher will work with children, grades K-5, in a laboratory setting to develop students’ scientific literacy and investigation skills.
St. Mark’s, established in 1979, is a coeducational parish day school, now serving 475 students from age two through Grade 8 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The foundation of St. Mark’s program is to provide students with balanced exposure to academics, arts, athletics, and spiritual life. At all levels, our students will be, as our mission states, academically enriched in a nurturing Christian environment.
Qualified candidates should have experience designing relevant, stimulating, and challenging investigations that develop students’ skills and ability to problem solve, work collaboratively, and think critically. A firm understanding of inquiry-based and hands-on learning should drive instruction.
Ideal candidates must have a collaborative, joyful spirit, a strong understanding of child development, excellent communication skills, a commitment to curriculum development, and continued professional development. The position involves lab instruction and supporting the Lower School faculty in their classroom teaching of science.
Preferred Professional Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood, Elementary, or Science Education.
- Experience teaching Lower School students.
- Familiarity with independent school culture.
- Knowledge of authentic, age-appropriate technology integration.
- Ability to work in a self-directed way.
