Princeton Day School is seeking an experienced professional to join our College Counseling Team, which includes the Director, two Associate Directors, and an Administrative Assistant. Students at PDS are officially assigned to a college counselor during their junior year, but any Upper School student or family is welcome to meet with one of the college counselors throughout the year.
Key responsibilities include (but not limited to):
serving as the primary counselor for an individual caseload of juniors and seniors. In addition, counselors work together to meet with and support all Upper School students.
educating students and their families about different types of colleges, current admissions trends, application procedures, financial aid, and testing through individual meetings, group presentations, and college seminar classes.
writing a comprehensive college recommendation letter for assigned students.
helping to plan and teach weekly college seminar classes.
meeting with college admissions representatives who visit PDS and the local area.
traveling regularly to professional development conferences and college campuses.
assisting with and speaking at 5-6 evening programs for PDS families throughout the academic year.
The Associate Director of College Counseling reports to the Director of College Counseling. The ideal candidate will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational ability and time management skills, high level of enthusiasm and love of working with many different types of students and parents. In addition, willingness to work in a fast-paced environment and the ability to meet deadlines are musts. Candidates should have Bachelor’s Degree and at least 5-10 years of experience in college admissions and/or high school college counseling. Up-to-date knowledge of admissions trends, practices, and financial aid processes is vital. This is a full-time, 12-month position.
