Poly Prep Country Day School seeks applicants for a Middle School English Teacher position for the 2017 – 2018 school year. The position requires knowledge of and practice teaching in middle school English, particularly in grades 5 – 8.
Teaching Duties Include:
teaching four sections of Middle School English;
meeting with students on an individual basis for extra help as needed;
amending and developing curricula as necessary;
keeping accurate grades, effectively communicating with students and families in a timely manner, and providing feedback on student progress consistently throughout the school year.
Additional Responsibilities Include:
assuming the role of an advisor for a group of students (7-10);
advising a club or activity;
attending community events throughout the school year;
committing to professional development;
attending and engaging in meetings during and after the school day, including but not limited to: department, committee, divisional, and grade level meetings.

Qualified applicants will possess:
expertise in the teaching of literature and writing;
an affinity and appreciation for teaching middle school students;
knowledge of pedagogy for middle school students, particularly with regard to reading and writing skills;
an ability to connect with a diverse student population and support their learning;
an ability to work collaboratively with other teachers;
effective classroom management and organizational skills;
effective communication skills, both oral and written;
a creative approach to teaching the curriculum;
an interest in incorporating technology into the curriculum.
The ideal candidate will possess a passion for teaching and learning, a love for working with students, families and colleagues, and a sense of humor. Candidates should have at minimum a bachelor’s degree; graduate degree preferred.
