The Geffen Academy seeks two teachers with a strong scientific backgrounds to teach integrated science at grades 6-9. This is a unique opportunity for a progressive science educator to join a new school implementing a challenging spiral curriculum combining biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science. Ideal candidates would have an undergraduate degree in physics or chemistry/biochemistry, multidisciplinary experience and the versatility to teach a combination of either physics and chemistry, or physics and biology, as well as an interest in helping to design more integrated science classes in the future. The ability to passionately and effectively teach both Middle and Upper School science, with emphasis on Middle School science in the ‘17-18" academic year
A sincere commitment to professional development in pedagogy and content area
A passionate commitment to science, and a desire to work with all types of learners
Proven ability to develop curricula, and teach effectively, using inquiry based learning

The successful candidates will have a Master’s degree in a related field and a strong background in secondary education with a clear understanding and embrace of the Academy’s mission, vision, and values. A record of outstanding success as a secondary or university educator. Experience in a “bring your own device” educational setting and/or commitment to BYOD program. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills to articulate and explain instructional issues to colleagues, students, and families. Must be self-directed and able to effectively prioritize and handle multiple tasks subject to frequent interruption. Must be capable of developing and sustaining close, effective working relationships with colleagues in the department and from other parts of UCLA and of the Academy staff on matters of interdisciplinary and institutional concern. Experience in a variety of instructional and co-curricular/extra-curricular roles within a secondary school would be a plus.
