Connelly School of the Holy Child, a girls’ independent school in the Washington D.C. metro area, is accepting applications for a full time science position, primarily in middle school science for the 2017-2018 academic year. The position would include 4 sections of middle school science and 1 upper school science class teaching an integrated science curriculum. An ideal candidate must be genuinely enthusiastic about science, be able to give dynamic lectures, conduct discussions, organize and supervise labs, as well as participate in school activities outside the classroom including a homeroom advisory program. It is important the candidate have life, physical and environmental science knowledge in order to make abstract ideas concrete and relevant to the students and have developed varied pedagogical strategies for teaching science. The candidate must be eager to teach collaboratively with other department members and across science disciplines, and be prepared to teach students of diverse backgrounds and abilities. Additionally, proficiency with the Next Generation Science Standards and a willingness to be innovative in his/her classroom and curriculum is ideal.
An exemplary applicant would either have experience with or be open to training in the Holy Child model of educating the whole person, through creative lessons that support the growth of each student and inspire her to take risks to meet her full potential. In addition, an applicant should have a bachelor’s degree in science as a minimum, and have taken courses in secondary education pedagogy. Teaching experience and advanced degree preferred, as well as active commitment to enhancing a school community through involvement on committees and in student life activities.
