Strake Jesuit is currently seeking qualified applicants for the full-time faculty position of College Counselor. The College Counselor’s duties include advising students individually and in small groups on issues pertaining to the college transition; knowing his or her students well and writing a highly personalized recommendation for each one; aiding students and families in other aspects of the student’s college trajectory as needed; and occasional travel to visit colleges and attend professional conferences.
As a member of the teaching faculty, the successful candidate will serve as a classroom teacher for at least one class section in the appropriate subject area for the applicant. Candidates must possess strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills as well as a genuine interest in working with students and parents to meet the needs of our diverse and active school population. A background in college admissions or college counseling is strongly preferred, as is an existing relationship with professional organizations like NACAC, TACAC, and the JHSCCA. Working knowledge of Naviance, the Common Application, ApplyTexas, and standardized testing programs including ACT, SAT, PSAT, and AP, is also an asset.
A bachelor's degree is required and a master's degree is preferred. The ability to teach class in an academic area is a significant asset for the college counselor candidate. The successful College Counselor, like all Strake Jesuit faculty, is enthusiastically committed to school life and our mission.
