The Assistant Principal is a member of the Upper School Administrative staff and Academic Council and is directly responsible to the Principal of the Upper School. The Assistant Principal will have a visible presence on campus and will serve as the primary point of contact on the Administrative team regarding student life. The Assistant Principal will also assist the Principal and Department Chairs in supporting faculty professional development, evaluations, and classroom observations as well as advancing the school’s academic program. The Assistant Principal will work closely with school counselors on issues of medical accommodations, academic accommodations, and other support for students in need.
Specific duties include:
Coordinating the school calendar for the Upper School.
Overseeing the planning, scheduling, and execution of assembly programming for the Upper School.
Coordinating regular meetings for new faculty orientation.
Administering the Upper School professional development and conference budget.
Supporting teachers in their academic work through coaching and feedback.
Assisting the Principal and department chairs with faculty evaluation and faculty supervision.
Assisting department chairs in planning and supporting curriculum.
Serving as the primary point of contact for student life activities and organizations (such as Student Government, Service Leadership Board, etc.).
Assisting the Principal with planning the agenda of Upper School Academic Council meetings.
Serving as the Administrative representative on the Upper School Innovation Team.
Coordinating medical accommodations procedures and overseeing academic accommodations.
Strong organizational, communication, and management skills.
Skill set necessary to develop meaningful relationships with faculty and students.
Ability to mediate and resolve conflicts.
Ability to problem-solve.
Ability to collaborate across constituent groups as well as being able to build consensus.
Minimum Job Qualifications:
Advanced degrees in teaching subject areas or educational leadership preferred.
Ample teaching and leadership experience in an independent school environment.
The Assistant Principal, Upper School position is an exempt, salaried, twelve-month position. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Benefits are substantial.
