La Scuola International School seeks dynamic, knowledgeable, and collaborative teachers for its 6th Grade class for the 2017/18 School Year. We are an IB accredited school in San Francisco, California, and currently building a K-8 Italian immersion program. We are particularly interested in teachers with experience in the IB PYP and MYP.
Applicants should be able to teach an inquiry-based curriculum, be strong team players and be very proactive and flexible. Final candidates need to be prepared for a teaching demonstration (or a video if they are overseas).
The Math/Science Teacher middle school position will start in August 2017 and will report to the Lower School Director.
Strong candidates will be able to plan, teach and develop their Subject area curriculum within the standards and practices of the PYP and MYP, as well as within La Scuola’s learning outcomes continuum which include Next Generation Science Standards, Common Core and more. Candidates will be passionate and expert at equipping their students with the intellectual capabilities and creative problem-solving skills to achieve at high levels in the 6th Grade PYP (or MYP). Further, we seek strong instructors who seek to cultivate in their students an appreciation of transdisciplinary learning and the world around them. Above all else, our ideal candidate will demonstrate genuine student rapport, strong skill in inquiry-based and authentic learning, and the ability to be a valuable team player.
Bachelor's degree in Education required; Master's degree highly desirable;
Minimum of 3 years' experience teaching in 4-8 grade level, preferably in a language immersion program and/or and IB accredited school;
Bilingual and biliterate in Italian and English with native or near-native Italian proficiency preferred;
Fluency in reading, writing and speaking in English/Italian; knowledge of Spanish a plus;
Problem solving, creativity, excellent multitasking skills and ability to thrive in a start-up environment are a must;
Knowledge of IB PYP Curriculum framework or inquiry/project based approach;
Knowledge of Reggio Emilia approach preferred;Knowledge of Reggio Emilia approach preferred;
Excellent verbal and written skills, as well as outstanding interpersonal skills;
Ability to thrive in a start-up environment
Strong teaching abilities; enjoy working with children and adolescents including ones with learning differences;
Ability to work well in a team and in a very collegial and collaborative environment;
Willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the La Scuola community and an advocate for our values and mission;
Obvious passion for and knowledge of the academic subject matter being taught;

Must be authorized to work in the U.S. La Scuola may be able to offer a teacher’s exchange visa for teachers with a relevant BA in their country of origin AND a MINIMUM of two years of continuous teaching experience.
Prior to beginning work and as a condition of employment in order to comply with the law, all employees must provide documentation to prove eligibility to work in United States. In addition, the final candidate will need to pass Criminal Justice Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance, a physical exam, and provide recent copy of a negative TB test and other immunization records.
