Journalism and 9th Grade English Teacher Job Description
This position entails teaching one section of Journalism to Tenth through Twelfth Graders and three sections of ninth grade English. The Journalism course bridges the mediums of print, web, and video and supports The Prism, the school newspaper. Beginning to Advanced Journalism students collaborate in this newsroom setting. The ninth grade position requires close collaboration with other ninth grade English teachers, as well as the interdisciplinary ninth grade team. The ninth grade English reading curriculum includes short stories, plays, memoirs, novels, and poetry. Students develop their skills in reading, writing, grammar, punctuation, annotation, vocabulary development, public speaking, and collaboration. The position requires comfort with the frequent use of educational technologies in the classroom, facility with electronic communication and learning management applications, and experience with a broad range of instructional practices.

Candidates must have: at least three years of upper school teaching experience, including journalism coursework; exceptional writing skills; and a demonstrated commitment to the advancement of their teaching practice. A Master’s degree is preferred.
