St. Edmund’s Academy seeks a dedicated and dynamic learning specialist with experience working with elementary and middle school aged students. Candidates must have superior teaching skills, excellent writing skills and strong verbal communication. The ability to be collaborative, detail-oriented and innovative is essential. Educators dedicated to meeting the academic and personal needs of children and collaborating with colleagues and parents should apply. A degree in education and/or reading certification is required; a master’s degree is preferred. A minimum of three years’ experience as a learning specialist is preferred.
The learning specialist works with individual students and small groups of students in and out of the classroom in conjunction with classroom teachers. The learning specialist has the responsibility of partnering proactively with faculty and administrators to support students with different learning styles.
The learning specialist:
Collaborates with classroom teachers to provide remediation for small groups of learners in need of support
Collaborates with classroom teachers to provide enrichment for accelerated learners
Provides resources to classroom teachers that would assist them in creating and delivering instruction that will effectively reach all learners
Administers and interprets diagnostic and achievement test results
Works with teachers in grades 1-5 to help track students’ progress who receive remediation
Directs one-on-one or small-group instruction
Supports teachers in making recommendations for learning evaluations
Participates in staff meetings pertaining to students with whom s/he works
Develops and writes student accommodation learning plans with long-term goals and specific objectives
Provides regular written student progress reports to the school and parents, which include diagnostic testing, assessment results, and recommendations for learning strategies
