The Athletic Department at Darlington School seeks a teacher for the 2017-2018 school year. This educator would join a dynamic environment of teaching professionals who are continuously growing and collaborating. The candidate must be open to learn from his/her colleagues and is comfortable sharing ideas and collaborating with their colleagues. The candidate must also demonstrate fluency and extensive knowledge of important concepts in the discipline and how they relate to other areas of school.
Additionally, the candidate will develop in each student an understanding of the relationship of good body function and exercise: to motivate each student to enhance his/her physical fitness as a means to improve his/her physical and mental health; to promote fitness as a means to develop self-confidence; to teach students the importance of nutrition and developing an overall healthy lifestyle that includes decision-making in individual and social settings.
To teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness; specifically, the basic movements and exercises involved in strength training as well as the components of physical, mental, and social health
To work in conjunction with the Athletic Department to provide coordinated and consistent instruction throughout the department
To help maintain the weight room and see that all equipment is functional and used properly and in a safe manner
To establish and maintain standards of student behavior that are conducive to learning in a positive environment
To communicate effectively with students, parents, and school administration
Participate in the overall life of the school including sports teams, school committees, and student activities
Commitment to improving students’ critical thinking and logical reasoning skills
Provides multiple methods of assessment that demonstrate knowledge, skill, and understanding
Delivers clear instruction and differentiates according to diverse student needs
Uses assessments results to plan and adjust future instructions
Makes use of available technology
Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assess and helping students solve health and learning problems
Develops a plan of professional growth and development that fosters life-long learning

The ideal candidate will have a B.S. Degree in Physical Education or Kinesiology with appropriate coursework in health sciences. Also, for those teachers with specific coaching assignments, physical stamina and skill, and experience in specific coaching area.
