The Language and Learning Specialist is a member of the Language and Learning Team, which supports the work of the classroom teachers by helping students who experience difficulties in reading, writing, organization and executive functioning.
The Language and Learning Specialist works collaboratively with teachers, coordinators, outside support personnel, and families to support students with different learning styles by providing intervention and remediation. The Specialist provides support to teachers in their efforts to advance students with different learning needs within the classroom. S/he contributes to curriculum development and modifications with a focus on students’ differing learning styles. S/he also performs both formal and informal assessments in order to monitor student progress and inform individual educational goals.
The Specialist attends team, grade level and administrative meetings to discuss student issues and progress. S/he participates in meetings with the parents of children who may be experiencing difficulties and facilitates coordination between the school, family and outside service providers.
