Director of Concert Choir
Maret School seeks a dynamic and joy-filled Director of Concert Choir to join its Performing Arts Faculty for the 2017-18 school year. This is a part-time position. Teaching responsibilities include directing the Concert Choir (10th - 12th graders) and teaching/directing the music for the Upper School Musical. The Concert Choir performs on-campus concerts in December and May, two outside performances with other area independent schools (National Cathedral in October/Sidwell Friends School in April), an annual February four-day out-of-state choir tour, and other school-day performances, including Maret’s All-School Holiday concert, Graduation and Closing Ceremony.
The ideal candidate will be an inspired musician/teacher with a high level of expertise in high school repertoire/programming. The ability to model healthy singing, a degree in music, solid piano skills, and a minimum of three years of successful teaching at the high school level are strongly preferred. Strong conducting skills important as well as an inspiring and engaging spirit in the classroom. It is key for the choir director to have a diverse, global and soulful repertoire that reflects and celebrates our wonderful community. Strong accompanying skills a major plus.
