The Calhoun School, a progressive independent school located on Manhattan's Upper West Side, is seeking a full-time Lower School Music teacher (3rd-5th grade) as a maternity leave replacement from August 28, 2017 through January 27, 2018.
The successful candidate will have a passion for working with Lower School students in an innovative, supportive environment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching Music to 3rd and 4th grade students in a classroom setting with a primary focus on singing, movement, and recorder;
Leading 3rd, 4th and 5th grade sing-alongs and coordinating regular Lower School wide performance and/or rehearsal based assemblies;
Leading two community performances – a Halloween themed “Hauntcert” and a Holiday “Winter Sing”
Developing curricula and implementing lessons that incorporate a range of learning approaches to both support and challenge diverse learners to reach their fullest potential;
Cultivating a love of learning and music;
Keeping anecdotal and assessment records to inform thoughtful, comprehensive reports;
Fulfilling duties, responsibilities and commitments as outlined in the Employee Handbook;
Ongoing parent communication;
Commitment to school-wide initiatives and participation in school wide professional development days.
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree (or degree in progress) preferred;

Experience teaching Music, preferably in a progressive environment;
Candidates will have a deep appreciation for student-centered, engaging and innovative teaching practices.
