Position Scope: An integral member of the Advancement Team, The Director of Development provides leadership for strategic fundraising and cultivating relationships with alumni, parents, friends, and board members
Direct Reports: Director of Annual Giving, Director of Planned Giving, and Administrative Assistant to Advancement
Responsibilities and Attributes:
With the Vice President for Advancement, create an annual development plan and budget based on the school's priorities.
Implement the clear vision and strategic direction for all aspects of the school’s development program.
Support the goals for each member of the Development Office. Ensure that each individual clearly understands his/her responsibilities and objectives.
Provide regular performance feedback, including annual performance appraisals, for the purpose of supporting the professional growth and talents of direct reports.
Support the culture and environment of inclusiveness and teamwork.
With Vice President for Advancement, design and implement strategies for raising funds to support current and future operations and ensure that resources are in place to support the school’s long-term financial stability.
Develop strategies for increasing the endowment and annual fundraising goals.
Identify, cultivate, and steward President's Circle donors ($1,000+) from constituents including individuals, foundations, and corporations
Effectively manage a pool of 35 to 50 qualified prospects.
Develop gift reporting, acknowledgments, accounting, and data management processes for the Development Office.
Assist the Director of Planned Giving in expanding the school's Planned Giving activities and prospect cultivation program.
Provide assistance with prospect research, grant writing, special events and all other programs essential to the school's fundraising success.
Prepare, distribute, and maintain donor visit reports and interactions.
Some limited travel to accomplish assigned activities.
Work with the Vice President for Advancement and Chair of the Board Development Committee to set fundraising agendas, provide data, and coordinate all fundraising efforts.
Provide organizational and administrative support for the Notre Dame Board of Directors.
Work with the Vice President for Advancement and President of School to coordinate the annual board retreat.
Attend senior administration meetings as needed and work closely with the Vice President for Advancement on other tasks as assigned.
Understand and enthusiastically articulate the mission and vision of a school founded and administered in the Holy Cross Tradition.
Creative problem solver with experience using a wide range of resources to accomplish complicated tasks and goals.
Experience in institutional advancement, preferably at a non-profit institution with an educational component.
Proficiency using fundraising software and understand its value to data analysis and the fundraising process. Significant experience with Raiser’s Edge is preferred.
Successful fundraising experience with cultivating, engaging, and expanding donor relationships with a wide variety of donors.
Three to five years of face-to-face fundraising experience including donor management, cultivation, strategy development, and personal solicitations.
Experience with a Capital Campaign preferred.
Demonstrated strengths in interpersonal skills and collaboration; a sense of humor is essential.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
A bachelor’s degree is required. An advanced degree is preferred.
