The Ellis Middle School is seeking an English/Writing Support Teacher beginning in August 2017. This position is part-time (50%). Responsibilities include teaching a seventh grade English class and working with Middle School students on an individual basis, in small groups, and in classrooms to provide writing and organizational support. This position works closely with classroom teachers in implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum for English and writing .Other duties, including—but not limited to—proctoring study halls, chaperoning, and committee work are integral to the role of Middle School faculty members.
A bachelor’s degree is required and a master’s degree is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3-5 years experience in a school setting. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator with the ability to teach literature, language, and writing effectively, to foster critical thinking skills and to engage students in class discussions. Applicants must also have a strong knowledge base in the area of learning differences; an understanding of diverse teaching strategies across the curriculum; and be current in general educational best practices especially in the teaching of reading and writing. Ideal candidates will also possess a commitment to using innovative pedagogical practices and technology to enhance instruction, as well as a commitment to fulfilling the mission of the School: to prepare, empower, and inspire each and every girl through an excellent education in an all-girls environment. In addition, desirable candidates will have a demonstrated enthusiasm for working with and teaching adolescents, a strong sense of school community and teamwork, and excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
