Olney Friends School is seeking a full-time art teacher. Classroom responsibilities would include teaching art courses, and other, more flexible coursework, according to interest and not necessarily limited to art. All Olney faculty members act as student advisors; may participate in dorm or evening roles; sponsor extracurricular activities, events, and/or sports; and immerse themselves in the daily life of the community.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, self-starter. The position requires at least a Bachelor’s degree, either in art, or in a field that closely relates to art, and teaching experience. A Master’s degree is preferable but less important than an interest in authentic, real-world learning and a commitment to encouraging critical thinking skills, cooperation, communication, and creativity.
Teachers who work at Olney enjoy great students, unusually small classes, and the chance to develop their teaching within a supportive and collaborative environment. We are a student-centered school, by nature, and 2018 will be the third year in the development of a unique, school-wide, mastery-based approach to curriculum. Together with students and other faculty, you could be part of something entirely new.
All employees at Olney Friends School must pass a background check and complete an application form as conditions of employment. Additionally, all faculty members must become certified in first aid and CPR and become mandatory abuse reporters. If eligible, all faculty are asked to become certified to drive school vehicles with students.
This job will very likely include some dorm sponsor duties and overnight dorm stays.
