The Academy Preschool/Pre-Kindergarten teacher nurture, teach, and care for children who have not yet entered kindergarten. They provide early childhood care and education through a variety of teaching strategies. They teach children, usually aged 3 to 5, both in groups and one on one. They do so by planning and implementing a curriculum that covers various areas of a child’s development, such as motor skills, social and emotional development, and language development.
The Preschool/Pre-Kindergarten teacher will:
Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play.
Teach basic skills such as color, shape, number and letter recognition, personal hygiene, and social skills.
Establish and enforce rules for behavior, and procedures for maintaining order.
Organize and lead activities designed to promote physical, mental and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and field trips.
Read books to entire classes or to small groups.
Observe and evaluate children's performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by lead teachers.
Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips.
Identify children showing signs of emotional, developmental, or health-related problems, and discuss them with supervisors, parents or guardians, and child development specialists.
Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress and needs, determine their priorities for their children, and suggest ways that they can promote learning and development.
Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.
Minimum of a BA degree; maybe required to hold State certification.
A minimum of one to two year experience working with young children.
