The Director of Middle School Admissions reports to the Head of School and is directly responsible for identifying, recruiting, admitting, and enrolling all incoming students to Grades 6-8 at The Harvey School. The Director of Middle School Admissions will work closely with the Director of Upper School Admissions, Head of Middle School, and other school administrators to implement long-range enrollment strategies, re-enroll current students, set financial aid, develop marketing and outreach strategies, and help grow the enrollment of the Middle School. Start date is July 1, 2017.
Plan, implement, and oversee the strategic and day-to-day operations of Middle School admissions.
Communicate proactively and regularly with applicants and families.
Collaborate with all members of the admissions team.
Interview student applicants and families throughout the year, including summers.
Train faculty and students who will be involved during applicant visits.
Consult on development and preparation of all admissions print materials.
Develop specialized print and online materials in concert with the Marketing Director to promote the Middle School.
Participate in regional and school recruitment fairs.
Cultivate relationships with sending schools and partner programs (e.g. REACH Prep) in the area.
Plan and execute the annual Harvey School Open House and Drop-in Days.
Prepare monthly statistical and informational reports for administration and board.
Plan, lead, and follow up on Middle School Admissions Committee meetings.
Work with Director of Upper School Admissions to plan and coordinate Step-up Night, New Parent Breakfast, and other special events.
Co-coordinate and participate in regional Harvey admissions evenings.
Communicate all decisions to applicant families and sending schools.
Help prepare, distribute, and collect re-enrollment contracts for all returning students.
Participate in financial aid decisions for new and returning Middle School students.
Serve as member of School’s administrative team.
Prepare quarterly reports and attend trustee meetings.
Participate in Fairchester, ISAAGNY, NYSAIS, and NAIS gatherings and workshops.
Teach, coach, or advise students in the Middle School if necessary.
Identify and pursue professional development activities appropriate to the position.
Participate in other committees and school-related activities as inclined and/or needed.
Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the Head of School.
Adhere to the Conditions of Employment.
Bachelor’s degree, ideally in an education-related field. Master’s degree preferred.
At least 5 years of relevant experience as an admissions officer or in a related role.
Willingness to work in a cooperative environment and collaborate closely with colleagues and families.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong understanding of independent school education, philosophy, and practice.
Positive attitude, flexible approach, and a sense of humor.
