The Jewish Community High School of the Bay is looking to hire a part time learning specialist who will work with the Director of Education Support in supporting the school’s range of learners, particularly those with documented learning differences. JCHS is a unique college preparatory high school committed to integrating deep learning, universal wisdom, and Jewish values. We empower each student to embrace her or his Jewish identity, generate empathy and compassion, delight in lifelong education, and improve the world.
The responsibilities of the Learning Specialist may include but are not limited to:
Working with students individually and in small groups
Reporting on progress made in individualized sessions and updating learning plans as needed
Communicating with families about learning strategies being implemented
Providing curriculum support as well as skills-based remediation
Supporting classroom teachers to differentiate instruction for a variety of learning styles and how to implement accommodations in the classroom
Coordinating and managing the Supervised Study Hall Program
Teaching some Study Skills classes as part of Freshman Seminar
Creating/Co-Running Professional Development for faculty
Weekly meetings with Director of Educational Support
Other duties as given by the Director of Education Support
Finds joy in working with students and participating in school life
Kind, patient, and possesses a healthy sense of humor
Comfortable with using technology in the classroom and accessing school-based learning portals
Sustained, successful teaching experience with students with learning differences
Organizational skills to maintain documentation tracking interventions, as well as to assist students with executive functioning skills
Skilled in communications and interpersonal relations with children and adults
Masters degree in special education and/or certification as a learning therapist preferred
