Pope John Paul II High School seeks a math teacher for the 2017-2018 school year. Applicants should outline those courses they feel most comfortable teaching in our curriculum; the ability to teach multiple and upper level courses will allow hires to meet the needs of our growing and dynamic school. The department values hands on activities and real world application of concepts so that students do not ask that dreaded question: “when am I going to use this?” We desire a teacher who can create interactive classrooms in which students are asked to develop problem-solving skills while developing their mathematical knowledge. Other important qualifications include the willingness to implement technology for lessons and assignments, as well as collaborate with other teachers in order to execute an aligned curriculum.
Applicants should hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree with a major in math (Master’s preferred). We seek applicants who can be models of life-long learners for our students and who are open to engaging in critical discussions about pedagogy. Likewise, in this Catholic institution, applicants should model a commitment to faith and truth, building relationships to help students realize their own dignity. We have a Renaissance vision for students, and we value teachers who can model the Renaissance ideal for our students both as life-long learners and the ability to work inter-disciplinarily. The ability to run or assist in extra-curricular programs will also play a role in our final hiring decisions.
Finalists for the position will be invited to interview and will be asked to teach a sample lesson. Interested applicants should email the Math department chair Betty Mayberry (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Karen Phillips(Karen.email@example.com) with the following:
A cover letter explaining the applicant’s interest in working at this dynamic Catholic School, as well as outlining the applicant’s potential contributions to the school outside of the classroom.
