Pope John Paul II High School seeks a Physics teacher for the 2017-2018 school year. Although the courses will likely be freshmen conceptual physics courses, the ability to teach upper level courses or across the sciences would be preferred since we are a vibrant and growing school. All students take conceptual physics in their freshman year, and modeling instruction is used throughout the entire science department. The department is highly collaborative seeking to ensure that students develop deep conceptual understandings that become their foundation for future classes. Students are actively engaged with their learning and the teacher acts as a facilitator and guide. The ideal candidate has the ability to develop a collaborative learning environment that utilizes data for development of conceptual understanding, encourages students of all learning abilities to grow in their understanding, and manages a safe and effective learning environment. Other important qualifications include the willingness to implement technology for lessons and assignments, as well as collaborate with other teachers in order to execute an aligned curriculum.
Applicants should hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree with a major in science/physics (Master’s preferred). We seek applicants who can be models of life-long learners for our students and who are open to engaging in critical discussions about pedagogy. Likewise, in this Catholic institution, applicants should model a commitment to faith and truth, building relationships to help students realize their own dignity. We have a Renaissance vision for students, and we value teachers who can model the Renaissance ideal for our students both as life-long learners and the ability to work inter-disciplinarily. The ability to run or assist in extra-curricular programs will also play a role in our final hiring decisions.
Finalists for the position will be invited to interview and will be asked to teach a sample lesson. Interested applicants should email the Science department chair Jennifer Dye (Jennifer.email@example.com) and Andrew Griffith (firstname.lastname@example.org) with the following:
A cover letter explaining the applicant’s interest in working at this dynamic Catholic school, as well as outlining the applicant’s potential contributions to the school outside of the classroom.
