The Orchard School is seeking an innovative, dynamic, collaborative teacher with a strong background in Elementary School Math and Science who can enhance the current program by:
Teaming with other elementary school teachers to help further differentiate instruction with a particular focus on challenge and enrichment
Developing and implementing a grade level interdisciplinary and experiential curriculum
Emphasizing a balance of conceptual learning and understanding with a strong skill foundation
The successful candidate will understand the developmental needs of elementary school students and combine knowledge of Math and Science with charisma, humor, energy and interest in connecting and inspiring elementary school students. Additionally, the successful candidate must be flexible and an excellent communicator/collaborator as he/she will be required to work with several different teachers. Orchard seeks to hire educators who possess a passion for equity and social justice, and who desire to grow personally and professionally in the field of education.
Qualifications and Attributes
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Math, Science, or related field
Experience working with Elementary School students
Experience with Math and Science enrichment programs
Understanding of learning styles and differentiated instruction
A commitment to progressive education
Ability to design hands-on, experiential learning activities that advance the targeted learning outcomes
Ability to work with technology to support, supplement and enhance teaching and learning
Affinity and enthusiasm for working with children
Excellent communication skills
Capacity to inspire others
Demonstrated history of energy and dynamism in the classroom
Willingness to learn and improve professionally
Sound judgment and emotional maturity
Ability to collaborate and work with a team
Willingness to engage in all aspects of the Orchard community
