The Harley School, a Nursery through 12th Grade independent school in Rochester, NY with approximately 500 students (www.harleyschool.org), seeks a full-time Food & Farm Coordinator staff position beginning in Summer 2017. Harley is expanding its edible education program with backing from the U.S.D.A. and Wegmans through grant awards. The program capitalizes on existing Harley facilities, including our Micro-Farm, High Tunnel, and Commons (our zero-net-emissions, 21st century barn, greenhouse, green roof, and science facility).
The position involves coordinating our edible education program, which includes both teaching courses and supporting relevant activities and projects in PreK-12 courses. Managing the multiple growing spaces (planning layout, ordering seeds and supplies), taking care of the spaces, harvesting, food preparation and cooking, and working with student crews are all essential components of the role. Other key aspects of the job include developing a food curriculum that utilizes our produce and taking the lead in composting. The Food & Farm Coordinator will work with Commons and edible education teachers to develop activities that integrate the edible education program with other parts of the school curriculum. Taking care of the growing spaces and fulfilling the objectives of the grants will direct much of the work for this position. The Food and Farm Coordinator will also have the opportunity to develop partnership relationships with interested and relevant organizations and schools.
Reports to: Seth O’Bryan, Commons Director and Edible Education Supervisor
Starts: Summer 2017 (12-month salaried staff position)
