A Lower School Classroom Teacher position is opening for the 2017-2018 school year at an independent day school in Culver City that meets the educational, emotional and social needs of students with language-based learning differences (age 7-14).
As the lead lower school teacher for a classroom of 12 students, you will be responsible for instruction in Social Studies, Language Arts (writing, grammar, spelling and vocabulary) and Study Skills / Executive Functioning. The ability to individualize / modify curriculum along with differentiated instruction is a must. Ongoing, effective communication between home and school and with outside professionals is required. Classroom teachers will attend weekly faculty meetings and are expected to collaborate on program and curriculum development. Classroom teachers are also responsible for coordinating student team meetings with specialists and administrators in order to discuss, evaluate and adjust individual students' programs. Strong writing, communication and thorough organization skills are a must. Every classroom teacher has the assistance of a full-time Associate Teacher in the classroom.
The candidate must have a degree and a teaching credential. Experience in special education (learning disabilities) and/or graduate degree is preferred. Position is full-time. Hours will range between 7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Salary is dependent upon experience. Benefits package begins immediately upon hire.
