BASIS is on a MISSION!
As a Subject Expert Teacher, you?ll spend your time and energy on the subjects you are most knowledgeable and passionate about. You?ll prepare one subject-focused lesson for the grade(s) you teach rather than 4 or 5 different lessons every day. This allows you to go deeper in your subject instruction, bring more creativity to your classroom and develop richer lessons that intrigue your students and ignite their interest.
While driven by the BASIS.ed core curriculum, SETs are given the freedom to do what they do best: inspire a love of learning in every child.
AS a SET, you handle the primary instruction in the classroom and are supported by a Learning Expert Teacher that assists with classroom management and student differentiation so your students are engaged and on task 100% of the time.
SETs: BASIS Primary Subject Expert Teachers (SETs) are knowledgeable, passionate elementary teachers that believe that with the right support and encouragement, any child can excel. We hire elementary school teachers with academic degrees or an educational emphasis in the disciplines they teach. BASIS Elementary subject expert teachers are able to focus their teaching on a specific subject rather than preparing lessons for several subjects every day. They work collaboratively with Learning Expert Teachers (LETs) to cultivate a joyful learning culture where hard work is celebrated and where intellectual pursuits result in extraordinary student outcomes. At the elementary level, LETs help you focus on instruction while they customize education to meet the individual differentiation needs of each student. Subject Expert Teachers in the BASIS elementary model will have a specific focus in either Math and Science, Humanities and Language Arts, Mandarin, Engineering and Visual or Performing Arts. As a SET, it is primarily your responsibility to develop engaging, content-rich subject specific lesson plans and to teach creative thinking and problem solving.

BASIS began as a visionary venture in 1998 when Dr. Michael and Olga Block, world-class economics academics, found that students in their classrooms who were educated outside of the United States were not only more prepared for the challenges faced in college than their American counterparts, but were simply "better" at being students. Digging further, they found that low expectations among Americ...an students led to a lack of curricular substance in U.S. classrooms. Creating a brand new school in Tucson, Arizona, they discovered that American students thrived when challenged, rising to and surpassing the best students in the world. Thus the BASIS.ed revolution was born! They developed a formula for success, refined regularly since then, that proves every child can become a great student when presented a rigorous course of study taught by Subject Expert Teachers and supported by a culture of excellence. What began as a single campus in Tucson has grown to become a unique, high-achieving, and unprecedented network of schools - five independent schools in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Silicon Valley, Fremont, and McLean, an international school in Shenzhen, China, and 26 charter schools across the United States.Today, BASIS.ed students have propelled their schools to become the top ranked in the nation and acclaimed world-wide, as noted in Amanda Ripley's book "The Smartest Kids in the World (and How They Got That Way)."How BASIS Schools Graduate The World's Best-Prepared StudentsThe BASIS.ed curriculum and program of study are based on 15 years refinement of a rigorous, challenging, supportive academic experience, ranked among the very best int he world.
