de Toledo High School, a Jewish day school in West Hills with a growing speech and debate program, is seeking an assistant speech and debate coach for the 2017-2018 season. The assistant coach will focus on Individual Events coaching, though an ideal candidate will have the experience and versatility needed to coach debate as well as speech events. Responsibilities will include: helping the head coach run twice-a-week after-school team practices; being available for coaching via e-mail, cell phone, and Skype; attending 12-15 off-campus tournaments as a chaperone and judge (including several tournaments as the school’s sole chaperone); assisting with the planning and hosting of the annual de Toledo open invitational; assisting with the planning and hosting of 2-3 smaller invitationals for Jewish day schools; and assisting the head coach and program director with other speech and debate logistics as needed (such as managing the budget, advertising program events, enlisting parents to judge at tournaments, and sending e-mails to the team with program updates). The assistant coach may also have the opportunity to help coach the school’s growing Mock Trial program and to teach a ninth-grade Public Speaking elective.
